Have you ever filled out a survey which assured you that your views mattered and then no one told you what the outcome of the survey was. Or perhaps you’ve been asked for your opinion but never really felt that it counted in the first place! I know that I have and it can be extremely frustrating not to mention a few other thoughts which come to mind! Well we felt that it was important that we move forward in our Diocese through the Forward! initiative and we also feel that it is now extremely important to feed back some of the information which came out of this initiative in our own group and how we are going to move Forward! as a consequence of the responses received. Broadly speaking, the response throughout our group has been extremely good with over 90 replies received to date. Before I comment on those replies I would like to make 2 remarks;
1. If you have not already returned your response to me then please do not feel that it is too late to do so at any stage and each response will be treated with the utmost confidence;
2. You do not have to complete a response to be able to fully embrace what Forward! is all about but your responses will help us to plan for the future of the group. All of the replies which have been received have been extremely positive, something which I am both thankful for and relieved about! I am very conscious that perhaps it has been difficult to grasp what Forward! will really mean in real terms in the day to day life of our group. I am also very conscious that for many people, boxes have been ticked in faith, trusting that God’s Holy Spirit will lead us to where He would have us go. And so we will continue to move forward in the coming months in a number of tangible ways, namely; o A faith development course will begin in the Autumn to cater for the 27 people who said that they would like to grow in their faith; o A Network course will begin early in 2006 to help the 13 people who said that they would like help to discover their God-given gifts; o Information evenings on tax efficient giving will be held in both the North and the South to cater for both tax systems; o Individuals who volunteered to help out at Sunday Services will gradually become more involved in ways which are appropriate to their gifts. In the longer term, work will be done to establish what we can provide for those people who said that they would like to join a Parish organization, or to assist at same. We will continue to seek ways in which people may serve God’s Church in our own group and beyond and in all things we will strive to build up one another and so grow stronger and healthier as a Church. I certainly do not expect to see results over-night but if that happens then we will praise God from whom all blessings flow. But what I do expect is that the work will be hard and even at times disheartening because Satan loves to get in to the middle of good things and spoil them. But in all of this let us remember that we are not working for ourselves but for our Lord and Master Jesus who gave us the perfect example of servant-hood, and paid the price for our sins so that we might have life everlasting. Let us move forward with this initiative trusting that He is the one who leads, who guides, who supports, empowers and comforts and who awaits us at the finish line with a winner’s medal for each one who completes the race run faithfully for Him. Let us move forward in that knowledge and pray for God’s blessing upon each one of us.

Lent appeal
I would like to thank everyone who supported our Lent appeal for the work of Tearfund in responding to the needs of Tsunami victims. Recent remembrance services and news reports remind us of the devastation which struck on 26th December in a way which none of us thought imaginable. Tearfund continue to work in the affected regions and are extremely appreciative of the £383.75 and €643.61 which was gifted by our group.

Tomregan Whist Drive
And our thanks also go to everyone to who has supported the Whist Club in Tomregan over the past season. Special thanks go to Mervyn Foster for continuing to organise the monthly Drives and to everyone who supported the recent fund raising effort which realised approximately €1946 for the Parish Hall account.

Congratulations
To Lorna and Ivan Hewson on the birth of their first child, Holly Eileen. Holly really is a gorgeous wee girl, which I’m sure Lorna and Ivan would agree with!! We congratulate you both and indeed Madeline and Rhynn and wish you all God’s blessing.
And on the note of congratulations, we also welcome Mr & Mrs Breiden back from their recent honeymoon in Tenerife. Nigel and Margaret were recently married in Drumeela Church, a service at which it was a privilege for me to preach. As you can see from the wedding picture Nigel has a problem keeping Margaret off the motor bike, or is it the other way round?! In either case we really do wish you the very best in your lives together and pray that your marriage would be a strong one and that you would both grow in your love and trust of one another.
And finally, congratulations to Jason Cassidy and Jonathan Gould who were confirmed in the faith at a service held in Cavan Parish Church on 1st May. Confirmation, whilst not a sacrament in our tradition, marks an important stage in the development of Christians. At our confirmation we claim for ourselves, in a public confession, the faith professed on our behalf by parents and godparents at our baptism. Jason and Jonathan, may you both continue to grow in your walk with Jesus and may we as brothers and sisters in Christ be an encouragement to one another in that journey.

Announcements
As you may be aware by now I am not the world’s most organised person, but I am trying to improve! You can help me in this by getting announcements to me by Friday night in order that I can include them on a bulletin sheet if there are a lot of them or simply so that I have a list of them to read out, prior to arriving at the service. Sometimes it is difficult for me to remember to make your announcement if it is handed to me just before the service, so by getting it to me a couple of days in advance you will be assured of its inclusion. Of course I understand that there may be things which crop up at the last minute but please do try and get any notices to me in good time.

Easter Vestries
I was encouraged by the attendance at our Easter Vestry meetings but there is room for improvement. Sometimes perhaps we feel that there is no point in attending this annual meeting as the Vestry are the people who make decisions, but you have the responsibility of electing the Vestry if you are registered to vote! It is a privilege to serve the Church through Vestry service and this is something which we should all be a part of. The following Church Wardens have been appointed to serve for the coming year; Tomregan Mrs Minnie Mitten (R), Mr Dessie Keyes (P), St Peter’s Mr Victor Lovett (R), Mr Abraham Graham (P), St Augustine's Mr Mervyn Gould (R), Mr Ivan Stubbs (P), St Paul's Mr Mackey Breen (R), Mr Raymond Humphreys (P). I would like to thank everyone who has served over the past year and I look forward to my first complete year working with these newly elected members.

If you would be interested in receiving a free copy for 4 weeks then please contact the Rectory. Please note that there is absolutely no obligation to subscribe after the trial period if you do not wish to continue.

Volunteers needed to steward

Volunteers to Steward My ordination to the presbyterate at St Peter’s at 4.00 pm on Sunday 19th June looms larger than life! Amongst all the other preparations it would be great if we could have some folk volunteer to act as stewards on the day. This will entail marshalling the movement and parking of cars and ensuring that visitors know where to go on the day. If you feel that you would like to help out in this way, then please contact the Rectory and I will pass on your details.

And finally, some humour

A man asked his neighbour if he would look after his cat for him while he and his wife were on holiday. Neighbour: “What would I have to do?”. Man: “Just put out a saucer of milk each morning and evening. We are very fond of the cat and would not like anything to happen to it”. Neighbour: “It won’t be hard to put out milk, so I’ll do it”. Man: “Maybe you would keep an eye on our elderly Granny as she will be on her own”. Neighbour: “Certainly, we’ll keep an eye on her”. Unfortunately, while they were away both the cat and the elderly Granny died. Upon return from holiday the neighbour said to his friend: “I’m sorry to tell you that the cat died while you were away”. Man: “That is bad news. It is a pity you didn’t break the news gently to me for it has come as a great shock”. Neighbour: “How should I have told you?”. Man: “Well, you could have said, “The cat climbed up the spout, walked along the roof to the end of it, fell off and broke its neck”. In that way I would have been prepared for the worst. By the way, how is Granny?”. Neighbour: “Well, she climbed up the spout, walked along the roof…..”
