New Beginnings

Church of Ireland Cross
Moving HouseWhat an adventure. As many of you will know we are in the process of moving. I must stress we are not leaving, simply moving house across the border, still in our parish group near Swanlinbar. Rev John will be using Kildallon Rectory.
Change often brings mixed feelings.
Moving house there are feelings of sorrow as we leave things behind. We’re not going far so the sorrow isn’t huge - we’re not going away, yet we will genuinely miss the unique joys of home in Ardlougher.
To a greater sense our group also knows sorrow. Recently there is sadness seeing Rev Brendan move on, before him Rev Geoff. We’d so got used to having Brendan around. We wish him well and pray God will use his many gifts to bless the Manorhamilton Group. Sorrow for others is rooted further back as things aren’t as they used to be.
Our group of parishes have not had an easy journey. There have been changes that have not been easy to get used to and a learning period for us all. I want to thank all who have journeyed with us, not least Rev Brendan these last three years. I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
Moving house there are also feelings of stress and aagh! There is so much to sort out, stuff to take, stuff to give away, stuff to throw away. It’s amazing how much stuff a family can accumulate over time. It’s a time when we ask, what do we really need to take with us? Moving isn’t all a pleasant experience!
Richard's new homeAs our group of parishes adapts to a new leadership team there may also be feelings of stress and anguish! There will be ordinary stuff to sort out that we need to keep everything in order, good practice and good foundations for the future. Instead of asking what we need to take with us we will be asking, what do we really need as Christ’s Church? What things really matter? What will enrich our lives and help us grow in faith and witness?
Different parishes have different priorities and we will be listening to these. One priority for both Rev John and I will be to take the opportunity to deepen our pastoral care and encourage us all in our experience of God. There are difficulties, not least financially and there are opportunities like the wonderfully refurbished halls we now have. How can these serve Christ and our witness and mission in the wider community?
Moving house there are also concerns and uncertainties. How will we manage our new routines and travel. How will Ruth adjust to her new school? In truth until we move we don’t know how things will turn out. There are times you simply have to step out.
A new minister coming and new ways of working and expectations will also bring concerns and uncertainties. I know for sure though we are much better off stepping out! I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as you allow Rev John and myself time to find our feet as we seek to serve this group in the best way we can.

Moving house there is also great excitement. This is a new opportunity, a new beginning. I hope you will also be able to see Rev John’s coming as a new beginning for our group. I pray that you will catch our excitement. We look forward greatly to having Rev John with us and I know you will all make him very welcome. Now we can draw breath, looking forward with a clearer sense knowing he should be with us for a good while.
Richard's signatureCaptain Richard Beadle
Jesus put a lot of emphasis on teams and he never sent disciples out alone. I am excited at the prospect of Rev John and I working closely together spurring each other on. It will be so encouraging to have him with us full time and I believe this will make such a difference to the life of the group.

Every Blessing in our New Beginning.

Bereavements
Cross

The pain of loss has been very real in our group of parishes and we would all want to offer our prayers and sympathy to the families of Robert Storey (Tomregan parish) buried in Templeport, Raymond Humphreys (Swanlinbar Parish) and Jim Knight (Tomregan Parish).
We also remember the Graham Family in Kinawley following the death of Louise Montgomery (Lisbellaw Methodist) and the Kells and Woods families following the death of Gertie Kells from Drumlane parish.

As we remember all those bereaved, both near and far, we pray for God's strength and comfort in the days ahead. We ask that all our lives would be lived in the light of the hope of meeting Jesus face to face in eternity.

Bereavement Prayer
Heavenly Father, give us faith and light in times of darkness. May our trusting in you help us live with questions unanswered. Grant us a certain hope in You, that will grow to surpass immeasurably the greatest depths of despair felt now. In you our Lord we put our trust.

Beryl-BakerEmail Prayer Letter from Beryl Baker

Casilla 1124, Asunción, Paraguay,
Sunday, 4 August 2013, 20:48
Subject: My promised prayer letter.

Dear Praying Friends,

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ Is The Same Yesterday, Today And Forever.

Dealing with change is at times none too easy and this month there are going to be many to cope with all needing to be covered with prayer.
The hand over in Paraguay to the new government will take place on the 15th and Horacio Cartes will be inaugurated as President. Please pray that this new leadership will do justly, love kindness and walk humbly with God.
Pray for Caroline and all of Geoff Clarke's family and St: Paul’s Northumberland Heath as they grieve and come to terms with his absence caused by his sudden death and all the changes that will follow.
For the Indian Health Promoters Lidia, Narcisa, Norma, Lalo, Cirilo, Serafin, Daniel and Cristobal that they will receive fair treatment from the new authorities and for ex Health Promoter Arsenio Martinez who is no longer able to do any kind of heavy work or driving due to brain damage after a motor bike accident also for Liberato Cabanas, still completely blind.
For the indigenous people in general as they come to terms with 21st Century life, changed environment, diet and climatic change.
In the Chaco we have experienced frosts for three days and then a soar in temperature to 35C. Please pray for rain to revive all the frost bitten grass and plants and protection from huge fires now that everywhere is so dry.
An Indian from Napoxen will go to the National Hospital at Itague on 29th August for heart surgery.
For the changes that must be made to my computer so that I can communicate properly again.
Any changes that need to be made for the future of myself, Ana and Georvy, the dogs , cats, tortoises, deer and donkeys.
For Dña Betty, Zuni and the Rio Verde church members in general especially for the Sunday School and young people.
Praise for Agripina Medina’s wonderful recovery and for her ongoing heart treatment also for the TB patients Antolin, Nimfa, Porfirio and Justino for their good recovery and that they will be faithful in taking their medicines.
All may change but Jesus never. Glory to his name.

Love and prayers,
Beryl

Rev Brendan McCarthy’s Farewell from the Swanlinbar Kildallon Group

On the right are copies of the pictures used on the front of the card which was presented to Rev Brendan McCarthy at his farewell service in St Peter’s Templeport on Sunday 18th August 2013.

Below is the inside text.

We will remember
much laughter and fun,
Meetings, tea and buns,
red faces and birthdays,
Football loyalties and hair,
The family sharing a musical gift,
Banter and chat in sermons with a lift
Wisdom and faith shared in home.
Tractors, tyres & potholes as you roam;
An Indian connection
and a search for treasure!

A Great Big
Thank You
for your ministry among us,
You spoke of ‘Taking over the World’
We wish you well with your
Next Step via Manorhamilton!
God be with you and your loved ones always

Mackie Breen’s Poem & Speech at Rev Brendan's Service in St Peter’s

On this particular day it is a privilege to have the opportunity to convey on behalf of The Swanlinbar Kildallon Group a message of thanks to Rev Brendan for his time here. Although I know there are many people from the Group better qualified than myself to perform this task, I’m sure they have their own memories to express.
I find it easier to express my memories in the words of a poem rather than a speech.. Hopefully it will be neither inadequate or disrespectful as it is certainly not my intention
The poem is as follows:-

From Fermanagh through Cavan and Leitrim
A little red car travelled round
Swanlinbar Templeport and Kinawley
At weekends it always was found
As well as Tomregan Kildallon
Newtowngore Corrawallen was bound
The red then turned to silver
A jeep on the highroads appeared
It’s driver was hard to distinguish
As it moved fastly round far and near
The driver soon became familiar
Rev Brendan of course was his name
Swanlinbar & Kildallon Group of parishes
His Christian message will always remain
He could have chose other occupations
A song writer or singer perhaps
Guitar playing or writing
A Kris Kristofferson or Johnny Cash
A film producer/director
Productions about the wise men
A rally driver or a comedian
A writer who’s good with the pen
But we all know the job he has chosen
The most important job of them all
From Ireland to London and India
Are just a few of his ports of call
As we say a farewell to Rev Brendan
And God bless and wish him the best
That little red car and the silver
From bumpy roads will be getting a rest

Below is a composite of some of the photos taken at Rev Brendan McCarthy's farewell Servise at St Peter's Templeport.
Rev Brendan McCarthy's final service in St Peter's

All these and many more photos of the service may be found from this link: /pwww.swanlinbar-kildallon.kilmore.anglican.org/brendan>

Mackie Breen
Mackie Breen reading his own poem about Rev Brendan.

To speak of a man of Brendan’s calibre would take a lot longer than we have got time for today so I will endeavour to say as much as possible in as short a time as I can.
What can I say? A multi- talented man who in his short time here is not only part of our Group of parishes, he is also part of everyone of us. That is the reason why it is so difficult to come to terms with his departure. As Mohammed Ali once said when he lost his world title “I shall return” and I’m sure this will apply to Brendan as well. Maybe not on a regular basis but either to preach occasionally or entertain us with his musical family. So today we are not going to say a final farewell as we know he will be back.
In his short time here he has become a familiar figure with his special talents of engaging with the congregation young and old during services, captivating the interest and imagination of everyone present while delivering a strong Christian message with humour and in a way that’s easily understood.
There are many highlights of this time with us including organising a trip to the Indian orphanage where he has been on many occasions before helping to set it up initially.
Bringing the Omagh Waterford peace choir to Swanlinbar.
Bringing his own musical family to our Group on a number of occasions which I’m sure was a very special effort on their part.
Many more events in the Group as well.
There are many amusing stories to be told, everyone having their own memories and experiences of Brendan, which will live on in our thoughts and hearts.
Today we thank God for Rev Brendan’s time with us. We thank Brendan and his wife and family for the immense input engaging with our Group in a Christian family way.
We wish each and every one of them God’s richest blessing in the future.

Mackie Breen 18th August 2013
